Mana

A project that reimagines our relationship with health data

︎ INDEPENDENT STUDY

I didn’t have a great history with my body image or the body positivity movement that has sprung up recently. I wanted to take a semester and really ask questions about the things we should measure in relation to our bodies.

Through interviews, I found that local Millennials and Gen-Zers had a stronger emotional connection to colors over numbers, and they would rather have a report of holistic health than just weight for BMI purposes.

This guided me to make Mana Stone, a 3D printed stone filament-based bathroom scale, which gives color gradient feedback based on three measurements mental, physical, and nutritional health. These pieces of data are all gathered via the Mana app which rewards user data submission through redeemable reward points.

The deliverables for this project were a bathroom scale design, an app prototype, and a process book.
